4. Who is the current chief of the campus?
As of 2010, Mr. Pashupati Mishra (Assoc. Prof. of Food Technology) is the chief of the campus. He is the campus chief of CCT and one of the two Assistant Deans of Institute of Science and Technology. His expected tenure is 2009-2012.

8. What is the climate like?
The climate is amazingly salubrious. Barely 20 km north it is chilly even in the summer! Barely 20 km south it is swelteringly hot in the summer and foggy for a good part of the day in the winter! Light clothes in the summer and moderately warm clothes in the winter will do. The day is clear and sunny throughout the season.

9. I want to enroll at CCT, how do I prepare?
First of all, you need to find out whether or not you are eligible for the application (see Admissions). All the applicants need to go through a rigorous entrance exam. Because the competition is often very tough, prospective students must be serious during preparation for the examination. Model questions are available for the same (see Exams/Results).

10. How much does studying at CCT cost?
It depends on which level you want to study. However, since the programs are Government funded, the study cost is roughly five to ten times less expensive than that in private institutions. Not considering the living expense and expense on stationery items, the lump sum expense for the full duration of study of different courses are as follows:

11. What is the living expense?
Well, it depends on your lifestyle. For a modest case, as of now (2009), food and accommodation would cost around NRs 35,000 per year. However, a lot of adjustments can be possible.

12. Are there any scholarships?
Yes, there are scholarships (in the form of stipend) and free-ships (tuition fee waiver) but conditions apply. See below the detail on scholarship.
 
I. Sc. Program

A stipend of NRs 2000 per year is given away for a male and a female student in First Year (on entrance exam merit) and Second Year (based on highest score in the first year final examination). Starting 2009, an additional scholarship (NRs 2000) is available in the I. Sc. program to a student securing the highest aggregate score. This scholarship, called Kurma Laxmi scholarship, was founded by Prof. Dr. Madan Koirala in loving memory of his mother
20% of the students can receive free-ship (tuition waiver). The prospective student must apply for the same. Since this free-ship is for diligent but poor students, a committee is formed to deliberate on the applications and select the deserving students. The candidates must go through a rigorous interview for the same. If possible, they are advised to furnish all the supporting documents (e.g., recommendation letters from relevant bodies) as to why they deserve this facility along with the application.

 
B. Sc. Program

The campus provides stipend worth NRs 2000 each in the first, second and third year for the highest scorer. The basis for the first year is entrance exam. For second and third year, the basis is the scores in first year and second year exams, respectively.

 
B.Tech Food Technology Program

Two scholarship schemes are in effect, one provided by the institute and another by Salt Trading Corporation.
The campus provides NRs 2000 per year for a single student on merit basis. In the first year, score in the entrance exam is considered. In the subsequent years, scores of the preceding final exam is considered.
Salt Trading Corporation gives away NRs 6000 per year, the criteria of the recipient being worked out by the Academic Administration.
Free-ship is also available for a limited number of students

 
M. Tech. Food Technology Program

RONAST gives away NRs 5,000 each to two students (highest and second-highest scorer in the first year examination) in their second year as an aid in their dissertation work. No free-ship is available for M. Tech. students.

13. Are there reservation quotas for Nationalities?

Right now, this facility does not exist. Everything is based on merit.

14. Are there any other quotas?
Yes, there are donations quotas for which you will have to pay more and apply in a prescribed manner during application. Please see Admissions for detail.

17. What help can I get for the preparation of entrance exam?
You can get model questions from the campus. Sometimes, student unions can also help you out. Entrance for B. Tech. (Food) is very tough. NEFTSA (Nepal Food Technology Students’ Association) also annually compiles entrance question models. You can buy this for a nominal NRs 150-200. You may get some models here also.

18. What is the selection procedure?
The selection is based on merit. That is, it is based on the marks you obtain in the entrance exam. Please visit Exams/Results for more detail.

19. What courses are run at CCT?
At CCT, six programs are running at the moment and one program is in the offing. The presently running programs and courses are:
(1) Proficiency Certificate Level (I. Sc.), Physical Group and Biology Group (2-year course)
(2) B. Sc. Microbiology Major with Botany and Zoology combination (3-year course)
(3) Bridge Course for M. Tech. Food Technology Study (1-year course)

(5) M. Tech. Food Technology (2-year course)

20. How many faculty members are there?
For the entire program, there are 45 faculty members. Because of the interrelated nature the most of the faculties are involved in multiple programs. Please see, Faculty for detail.

Accommodation
22. What is the cost of living for students at CCT?
Refer to FAQ 3. However, there are lots of options for minimizing the cost. For instance, some students live as paying guest (often teaching their kids in the spare time), some share rooms, and some live in hostels (for B. Tech and I. Sc. students only). At any rate you will need around NRs 35,000 per year for food and accommodation only.

23. How can I get a reasonably priced room for the stay?
There are many houses in the vicinity of the campus where you can get rooms at an affordable price. If you consult with senior students or the union, they might be able to help you out. By todays’ standard, a moderately furnished room may cost anywhere between NRs 1200-1500 per month. The cost of food (in local canteens) is anywhere between NRs 1800 to 2200 per month.

24. How can I get hostel accommodation?
At the moment, hostel accommodation is available only for I. Sc. and B. Tech. male students only (see Amenities for detail). Each year (between December and January) the campus calls from interested students application for hostel accommodation. The application form can be collected free or cost from the store or as directed in the notice, duly filled up, and submitted within the stipulated time period. You will need a pass-port size photo and Xerox copies of character certificate and mark-sheet of your preceding academic level. However, be informed that hostel facility is for students from very far off and/or remote places (see FAQ 25 for selection procedure). Once you are selected, you will need to contact the Account and Store sections for admission.

25. What is the selection procedure for hostel?
The selection is based on interview by a panel consisting of hostel members and administrative officials. Various criteria such as remoteness/distance of the applicant’s district from CCT, socio-economic status, diligence, examination score, recommendation from relevant bodies, etc., will be used for the evaluation. Shortly after the interview, a list of successful applicants (along with a waiting list) is published. Once you are selected, you will need to contact the Account and Store sections for admission.

26. Is there a canteen / cafeteria / mess for the students?
Yes, there are two canteens in the campus premise, only one of which is operational at the moment.

30. I have finished my study at CCT, how do I formally leave the campus?
After you have completed your course duration (irrespective of whether you pass or fail) you must clear up your dues and obtain clearance from the Library and relevant Instruction Committees. If you have stayed in hostel, you must obtain clearance from the store section also. Before giving hostel clearance, however, staff from the store section will physically examine your room to prepare an inventory of items and verify that nothing is amiss. Clearance from library is needed to ensure that you have returned all the books. Clearance from the Instruction Committees is needed to ensure that you have no objectionable record in the laboratory. For obtaining the clearance, get a deposit form from the office, and fill it up / get it filled up.
Note that you have some refundable deposit amount in the campus. Be informed, without undergoing the above process, you cannot formally leave the campus. Your deposit will not be refunded and, more importantly, your character certificates will be withheld until you complete the process.

31. I want to get a provisional certificate from the campus, what should I do?
You will need to submit an application addressing the campus chief/Assistant Dean clearly stating your purpose/motive. A token fee of NRs 100 will be required as a processing charge. The campus will give you an official letter addressing “whom it may concern” that you have completed the course duration.

32. I want a recommendation letter, what is the procedure?
For Proficiency Certificate Level and B. Sc. Level, it is the same as FAQ 31 but if you intend to apply for foreign institutes/universities, the processing charge is NRs 500 per letter. For B. Tech. Level, you will submit the application to Chairman of Food Technology Instruction Committee and for M. Tech. Level, you will submit the application to Chairman of Central Department of Food Technology. The processing charge in either case is NRs 500 per recommendation letter.

33. What is the process of obtaining character certificate and transcript?
The academic transcript is provided by the campus. You will have to obtain it from the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), Balkhu, Kathmandu. First you get a form, fill it up and deposit the stated amount of processing fee in the bank. You need your Tribhuvan University registration number, so better carry with you your examination admission card also. You then submit the voucher at Office of the Controller of Examination. You will be given a receipt, producing which you will be given the academic transcript.
Character certificate will be given by the campus but only upon furnishing the academic transcript.

34. I have lost my student identity card, what should I do?
Write an application to the campus chief stating the reason of the loss. You will need a passport size photo for the card and NRs 25 as fine.

35. I have lost my exam admission card, what should I do?
Write an application to the campus chief stating the reason of the loss. Upon payment of NRs 60, you will receive a duplicate admission card.
